What is Infertility?

Infertility should not be confused with the inability to conceive. In general, the diagnosis of infertility can be achieved after 12 months of trials. If the woman is over 35, the deadline for the diagnosis falls to six months of trying.

In Brazil, it is estimated that approximately two million couples may present some difficulty throughout their reproductive lives. Infertility affects about one in ten couples of childbearing age.

  • 30 to 40% of cases of infertility are due to male and female problems simultaneously;
  • 20% of cases of infertility are because of the man;
  • 30 to 40% of cases of infertility are because of the woman;
  • 10% of cases are unexplained infertility.

Infertility is a disease that affects the couple simultaneously and in various ways. With confusing characteristics, it affects many aspects of people’s lives, self-esteem, the ability to plan for the future, the couple’s own relationship with each other and others, and deep feelings of guilt, frustration and stress.
