When a couple is considered infertile?
We try to do not call a couple infertile. We can say that after a year of unprotected sexual acts without pregnancy there may be a factor impairing pregnancy.
What should a couple do?
A couple presenting impairment to get pregnant should be evaluated. Some exams are requested for this purpose:
-hysterosalpingogram: is the infusion of a contrast inside the uterus for the visual inspection of the uterine cavity, permeability and aspect of the uterine tubes
-Ultrasonography: allows the evaluation of the uterus and ovary
-Sperm analysis: gives information about the quality, morphology and motility of the spermatozoa
-Hormone measurements: it is necessary to evaluate that can influence on ovulation or pregnancy.
Which are the main causes of male and female infertility?
The main cause of male infertility is idiopathic (undetermined).
The main causes of female infertility are endometriosis, alterations in the uterine tube and disturbances in ovulation, and uterine alterations.
