Classic in vitro fertilization (IVF)
This is the most frequent technique, as it contours a broad range of infertility causes, especially those related to female factors. The so called “test-tube baby” is a technique with excellent success rates with absolute safety in all steps. The procedure comprises four steps. During the first step the ovarian stimulation is induced with the follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). The aim is to stimulate the growth of the greater number of eggs as possible, to increase the chances of fertilization and pregnancy. During the second phase another hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is administered to stimulate the eggs maturation. When the ideal development is attained, these eggs are aspirated from the ovaries, they are identified and selected to be joined to the spermatozoa (phase 3) – in a special vessel (that actually is not a test tube) to the formation of the embryos (phase 4). After embryo formation, they are kept in a incubator, under environmental conditions similar to the uterine tuba, generally for 48 to 72 hours, until blastocyst (embryos with 8 or more cells). Those embryos with the best quality indexes will be transferred to the uterus, which will be prepared to receive them at this time.
