Sperm Count

Semen or seminal analysis, is the best test for the initial evaluation of the man. Many patients believe that the procedure results in a final judgment on fertility. In fact, the test demonstrates the operating status of the testes. By means of sperm count can be assessed:

  • Quantity of sperm produced: important because there is much loss of sperm on the way to the oocyte.
  • Motility (movement) of sperm: very important factor for the distance to be covered properly.
  • Morphology or format of sperm: sperm capacity to fertilize oocyte.

Abstinence for semen collection should be similar to the frequency of sexual intercourse of the couple. The collection should be done by masturbation, avoiding losses, especially in the first ejaculation, which contains the most sperm.
